Meta, Anthropic seek $10 billion AI compute lease deal: report

Meta Platforms is in preliminary discussions to lease massive amounts of artificial intelligence computing power to rival AI startup Anthropic in a potential deal worth more than $10 billion.

As reported by the New York Times, the proposed two-year agreement would see Anthropic pay Meta through monthly installments for access to the company’s AI computing infrastructure.

If finalized, the partnership would catalyze Meta's internal initiative to monetize its sprawling $145 billion infrastructure footprint, effectively launching a new cloud computing business line that competes directly with traditional tech providers and infrastructure specialists like CoreWeave

The Claude Code creator would pay Meta in monthly increments , although the terms remain subject to change.

IPO-bound Anthropic had proposed the deal in June and Meta is considering it, the report said, adding that the talks have become complicated since Meta does not have a business ‌selling its computing power.

The companies are exploring a major infrastructure arrangement as AI developers race to expand access to high-performance computing resources.

According to the report, the discussions are in their early stages while Meta and Anthropic did not disclosed any details.
