Hall of Fame basketball coach Rick Adelman, one of the most successful coaches in NBA history, has died at the age of 79.
Adelman built a remarkable coaching career spanning nearly three decades in the NBA, finishing with a regular-season record of 1,042 wins and 749 losses.
His total places him 10th on the league's all-time coaching wins list.
He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021 and received the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023 in recognition of his contributions to the sport.
During his career, Adelman served as head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Reacting to his death, the Kings said in a statement: "The Sacramento Kings organization is deeply saddened by the passing of Rick Adelman, a beloved coach whose leadership, character, and vision helped define an era of Kings basketball that inspired our city and captivated fans around the world."
"During his eight seasons in Sacramento, he led the team to unprecedented success and helped create some of the most memorable moments in franchise history,” the team added.
Adelman is survived by his family, including his son David Adelman, the current head coach of the Denver Nuggets.
