Pete Davidson urged not to target Charlie Kirk in comedy set: Insider
Pete Davidson is under fire after making a shocking joke about Charlie Kirk
Pete Davidson is under fire after delivering a shocking joke about Charlie Kirk during Netflix's The Roast of Kevin Hart.
During the roast, the 32-year-old comedian compared Tony Hinchcliffe to the late political activist.
“Tony reminds me of Charlie Kirk, in that he’s definitely been on camera letting a guy unload in his throat," he joked.
The comment immediately sparked backlash online, with critics calling for an apology from Pete.
Now, an insider tells Naughty But Nice that the SNL alum was warned not to joke about Charlie.
“Pete was absolutely warned,” the source says. “People told him the Charlie Kirk material would create a firestorm. He didn’t listen.”
“If this had aired on NBC, CBS, or ABC, the joke would have been cut instantly,” the confidant continues. “There’s no question about it.”
Meanwhile, another source tells the publication that the reaction within the industry was as intense as the public outrage.
“Mainstream outlets are uncomfortable even repeating the joke,” one media insider explains. “That tells you how radioactive this has already become.”
Insiders believe that this controversy could have lasting effects on Pete's career.
“People expect edgy from Pete,” the source says. “But this crossed into territory a lot of executives think simply isn’t funny anymore.”
