Coco Gauff drops first set 7-5 to Solana Sierra in Italian Open shocker
In the second set, Coco Gauff hit back with 6-0
Coco Gauff and Solana Sierra are competing with each other at a nail biting match at the Italian Open in Rome.
However, the match just took a dramatic turn and put Gauff’s fans in shock as Solana Sierra definitely came out swinging to grab that first set 7-5, proving she can hang with the world’s best on clay.
However, Third Seed Coco Gauff answered back in a huge way. In the second set, she hit back with 6-0,
Sierra actually went up an early break in the third, but Gauff is currently trying to claw her way back into the lead.
It’s a complete contrast to their meeting at the United Cup earlier this year, where Coco cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win. Sierra is clearly a different player on the red dirt.
Gauff has been battling some inconsistency during this 2026 clay swing, including a few early exits in Stuttgart and Madrid
However, the third set is still ongoing.
Before the start of the match, certain projections were ongoing. For instance, Coco Gauff is projected to win with an 88.2 percent probability, leaving Solana Sierra with only an 11.8% chance of an upset.
Financial valuations reflect this gap, with Gauff listed as a heavy -1099 favorite on the moneyline, while Sierra sits at +770.
