James Gunn gets honest about what happened to 'The Authority'
James Gunn offers the update about 'The Authority' on Threads
At the new DCU, a score of projects is in the works. The Authority is one of them. However, the movie was quietly put on ice.
On Threads, a social media platform, the franchise co-head, frequently used, offers fans an update about the film.
“The script wasn’t quite there, but more importantly, it didn’t work in terms of the larger DCU, both in terms of the story and practical concerns. Maybe some day. Not soon."
Though The Authority, which was part of slate first announced in January 2023; was not outright axed but postponed for now.
Moreover, this statement was contrastingly different from when Gunn announced the film, saying, “It isn’t just a story of heroes and villains, and not every movie and TV show is going to be about good guys versus bad guys."
“There are people that are very questionable, like the Authority, who basically believe that you can’t fix the world in an easy manner, and they take things into their own hands," he said at the time.
In the meantime, work on Superman's follow-up story, Man of Tomorrow, is ongoing.
