Instagram tests clickable links in post captions: Report
Many creators rely on ‘link in bio’ tools to direct followers to external websites
Instagram is reportedly testing a new feature where Meta Verified subscribers can now add links directly to their Instagram captions. This is one of the most awaited features requested by creators on the platform.
Until now, the app allowed users to only share links via their stories or profile bios. This led to the creation of “link in bio” platforms such as Linktree.
The testing of the feature was first noticed by a blogger named Andrea Valeria. She posted screenshots showing how she can now add a link to her Substack via the Instagram app. The app is said to have a message saying the user can add a maximum of 10 links every month.
The social media giant has confirmed to Engadget that the testing of the feature is being rolled out for Meta Verified subscribers. However, more details about the feature are still under wraps. What is interesting to note is that the links can be seen on the mobile app of the platform, while they are not visible on the web version.
The rollout of clickable links in captions is expected to transform creator interactions with their followers while enabling content sharing beyond Instagram.
This test aligns with Meta’s broader strategy of offering link-sharing as a paid feature. The company has also trialled limiting links on Facebook for creators without a Meta Verified subscription. Plans for Meta Verified start at $14.99 per month, with higher tiers costing up to $499.99.
