Prince William spotlights breakthrough sustainable underwater initiative for the ocean
Prince William’s Earthshot Prize spotlights a coral reef imitative
Prince William has just shared a brand new initiative via his Earthshot Prize.
For those unversed, the initiative in question attempts to grow corals on land, and as of right now they have already grown 100,000 corals, and with $8 million in new funding, according to the story’s caption.
In particular their focus is on those coral reefs that have been damaged and to combat this they are attempting to grow stronger, climate-resilient corals in land-based farms and planting them back into the ocean.
The collection of pictures that highlighted the work they are putting in warns, “Reefs are dying fast - half are already gone and 90%+ could vanish by 2050. Reefs generate trillions annually, protecting coastlines, supporting fisheries, and sustaining 1 billion people and 25% of marine life. Losing them isn't an option.”
That is why “Coral Vita grows resilient coral in land-based coral farms in months instead of decades, replanting them into the ocean to revive reef health,” the second image claimed.
As of right now “This year alone, they raised an $8 million dollar Series A round, a world-first for a coral restoration company.”
