Prince Harry finally speaks out about his life: ‘For me, my wife, and children this is huge’
Prince Harry has weighed in on his experience with the media and how the last few years have gone
Prince Harry has finally presented his personal feelings about the sheer lack of privacy that he’s felt ever since ‘birth’ as well as the cost he paid for his legal battles against “powerful institutions” because through this fight they have come at a “personal and reputational cost for me, my wife, and our children" according to The Independent.
The whole thing was shared during his appearance as the keynote speaker in Washington DC, this Tuesday at the APP global summit. For those unversed this event focuses on privacy, AI governance, and cybersecurity law.
During this the prince addressed his ‘foundational issue’ head on and said, “Now, my connection to privacy, and the lack of it, begins in a different place than most. From birth. You may know that I've spent the past seven years in litigation against three media organisations in the UK over their systemic and unlawful invasions of privacy, as well as the cover-up of it, dating back to the early 2000's.”
Also what is pertinent to mention regarding his many privacy cases is that the one against Mirror Group Newspapers in 2023 for unlawful information-gathering saw him get awarded £140,600 in damages. Furthermore, he also settled a claim against News Group Newspapers in 2025, and it featured “a “full and unequivocal apology” for both “serious intrusion” as well as the unlawful activities” by The Sun.
At one point he also brought focus to his work regarding how platform algorithms tracked children's behavior and later made it difficult for parents of these late children to even get access to their phones. His concluding words read, “as you can perhaps tell, I have nothing to gain from taking on powerful institutions. In many ways, it's come at a personal and reputational cost for me, my wife, and our kids. The fact that humans are the architects of this technology means that humans are in the position to design a better future and world where the right to privacy is not just an ideal, but the norm.”
