Prince Andrew's royal exit sparks Dukedom showdown in Parliament
Till Parliament takes action, Andrew will legally retain his dukedom, MPs
Prince Andrew' s bombshell decision to give up all of his royal titles has sent shockwaves both within and behind the palace walls.
Amid the buzz around his new position in the Firm, pressure is now mounting on Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, to pass legislation that would allow Parliament to strip the scandal-plagued prince of his dukedom.
It all began on Friday when Prince Andrew announced he was relinquishing his title as Duke of York, his knighthood, and his role as Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.
However, till Parliament takes action, Andrew will legally retain his dukedom.
There are now whispers among MPs about initiating Parliamentary proceedings, though others believe it is up to the Royal Family to petition for the removal of the title through Parliament.
Stephen Flynn, the SNP leader in Westminster, told The Telegraph: 'I won't sit silent-if an act of Parliament is required.'
A Labour MP also voiced opposition to Andrew retaining any titles, stating: 'I do think he ought to be stripped of all titles.'
However, the government ministers have so far remained silent, awaiting whether any MP will bring a Bill forward for debate.
Labours Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson commented: 'Government support the decision made by the Royal Family but it's always been the case in Parliament that individual members of Parliament to bring forward debates.'
This political storm comes as royal experts weigh in on the unfolding situation involving Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, who are reportedly facing growing financial strain, especially now both have been sidelined and financially cut off financially by King Charles.
