Diddy’s four year courtroom sentence marks end of rapper’s era
Sean Diddy Combs has been ordered to pay $500,000 fine along with four years of sentence
Sean “P Diddy” Combs was sentenced to four years and two months in prison on Friday after being found guilty on two counts of transporting women for prostitution.
The 55 year old music star was also ordered to pay a $500,000 fine, the maximum allowed by the court.
The sentence was delivered after Diddy’s been cleared of more serious charges of racketeering and sex trafficking earlier this year.
During the trial, disturbing details surfaced about the rapper’s private life, including accounts of so-called “freak off parties” involving ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura.
She, along with exotic dancer Sharay Hayes, testified against him.
Hayes, known by the nickname “The Punisher,” told TMZ after the verdict that the judge’s decision was meant to protect victims and discourage others from similar actions.
He said that he believed Diddy was genuinely regretful, adding, “He was on top of the world and lost it all ... and has no one to blame but himself — that changed him forever.”
Not everyone shared that view, as another inappropriate doing worker connected to the trial told the outlet that the Missing You rapper has been let off lightly, arguing he could have faced as much as 10 years in prison.
Among the public reactions was rival rapper 50 Cent, who mocked the ruling on social media, sharing sketch of the troubled music mogul.
Cent joked about replacing him at a planned speaking event.
Moreover, Diddy’s lawyers, Marc Agnifilo and Brian Steel, said they will appeal because the judge mentioned things the jury already rejected..
Outside the courtroom, Diddy’s mother Janice appeared in white, with six of his children and as she left, the rapper apologised to her, saying, “I’m sorry.”
