Evergreen high school shooter dies from self-inflicted gunshot
Teenage assailant wounds two students before taking own life in Colorado school attack
The Evergreen High School shooting incident by a 16-year-old student who opened fire and injured two classmates then killed himself with the same gun on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that the shooting prompted a massive law enforcement response and left one victim in critical condition with another sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.
Jefferson County Sheriff's officer Jacki Kelley revealed: “This is the scariest thing you could ever think could happen. Honestly, I don't know if our suspect is old enough to even drive.”
The incident began at 12:24 p.m. on Wednesday when the assailant fired a revolver at students inside and outside the school building.
Officers reached the campus within two minutes of emergency calls and encountered the shooter within five minutes, though no law enforcement discharged their weapons during the confrontation.
Three students were transported to CommonSpirit St. Anthony Hospital with gunshot wounds, while a fourth sought treatment for injuries sustained while fleeing to nearby Bergen Meadow Elementary School.
Hundreds of parents gathered at the elementary school for emotional reunions with their children following the lockdown.
The investigation continues with search warrants pending for the shooter's home and locker.
The tragedy marks another painful chapter for Colorado's education community, which continues to grapple with the legacy of the 1999 Columbine shooting.
Governor Jared Polis offered condolences and state resources, emphasizing that this kind of violence has absolutely no place in Colorado or anywhere, especially our schools.
