Tsunami hits Hawaii, California after earthquake shakes Russia
7th highest earthquake sends tsunami into Russia, Japan and Hawaii
Japan's Island Hokkaido and Russian Kuril Island are being smashed by a tsunami which erupted in the Pacific. California and Hawaii are among the states which are facing critical time with the Big Blue waves at high alert.
Russia experienced an 8.8 magnitude earthquake at coastal areas in the early morning of Tuesday, July 29, 2025, which created a powerful ocean surge which moved to Hawaii and other shoreline areas.
Hawaii Emergency Management Agency took to its official X handle and cautioned: “Tsunami warning, first wave update to arrive at 7:10 PM HST. Urgent action should be taken, protect life and property.”
Japan Meteorological Agency, JMA, issued a safety warning and revealed the catastrophe details as 2 feet (around 60 centimeters) high waves traveled in a south direction along the Pacific beachfront starting from Japan’s 2nd largest Island, Hokkaido to Tokyo Bay.
Russia declared a state of emergency in multiple areas, especially near to the Kamchatka Peninsula which was detected as quake origin. Authorities confirmed the reports of casualties and damages in affected areas.
Hawaii witnessed tsunami hits at major beach areas and harbors including capital Honolulu. Officials immediately blew alert sirens to evacuate the seaside dwellers to higher land.
Later authorities lifted the tsunami high alert in the state after China and Japan canceled warnings.
