Kate Beckinsale announces death of mom at 78: ‘I don’t want to post this’
Kate Beckinsale reveals the death of mother Judy Loe in a social media tribute
Kate Beckinsale is mourning the loss of her mother, Judy Loe, who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 78.
The actress shared the heartbreaking news in an emotional Instagram post on Thursday, revealing that her mother died in her arms following what she described as “immeasurable suffering.”
“I am paralysed,” Beckinsale wrote.
“Jude was the compass of my life, the love of my life, my dearest friend. The vastness and huge heart of this tiny woman has touched so many people who love her dearly.”
The grief was deeply personal for the 51-year-old, who also reflected on the early loss of her father, actor Richard Beckinsale, who died of a heart attack when she was just five years old.
“This has been my greatest fear since finding my father dead at five and I am here,” she shared. “Oh my Mama.. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I am so sorry.”
Beckinsale praised her mother’s character and strength, describing her as brave and forgiving, someone who “believed in the ultimate good in people,” and admitted that the world now feels “so dim without her that it is nearly impossible to bear.”
Although Beckinsale didn’t share her mother’s cause of death, she had previously disclosed in 2023 that Judy had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.
Earlier this month, Beckinsale hinted at the emotional toll she had been carrying.
After a fan commented on her weight in a series of now-deleted photos, the actress responded candidly, “I’m going through one of the most deeply painful times of my life. The body keeps the score.”
