Prince Edward is embarking on an important tour on behalf of King Charles to continue the monarch’s mission in Canada.

The King’s younger brother – who is the Colonel-in-Chief of the Prince Edward Island Regiment – will be attending celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the Regiment after he arrives in the North American nation on Wednesday.

The visit, which will be a five-day tour, comes soon after King Charles and Queen Camilla made a landmark visit last month to open the Canadian Parliament – the first time for a monarch to do so in nearly 50 years.

King Charles also delivered his first Speech from the Throne as the head of state for Canada. In his speech, he made a powerful statement about the sovereignty of the country.

He stated that the “True North is indeed strong and free” and the “government is determined to protect” it.

The Duke of Edinburgh has been playing a key role for his brother, especially after Charles was diagnosed with cancer. Edward has been entrusted with crucial missions which require a polished representation of the royal family.

With Prince Edward’s visit to Canada, the royal appears to be reiterating the support for the country. The 61-year-old royal is meant to visit Toronto and attend Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa before he returns to UK on July 2.
