Duchess Sophie and Prince Edward's visit marks the 640th anniversary of the Treaty of Windsor
Palace has shared details of Duchess Sophie and Prince Edward’s special trip to Portugal to mark the 640th anniversary of the Treaty of Windsor.
The palace shared photos of the royal couple on social media saying, “The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are in Portugal!.”
The statement reads, “Their Royal Highnesses’ visit marks the 640th anniversary of the Treaty of Windsor, which cemented the Anglo-Portuguese partnership, the world’s oldest diplomatic alliance.”
The palace shared that during a day in Lisbon, the Duke and Duchess took a ride on an iconic Lisbon tram.
They also unveiled the first display of the original English and Portuguese copies of the Treaty of Windsor.
Sophie and Edward celebrated brilliant people at a Garden Party at the Ambassador’s Residence.
This year marks the 640th anniversary of the Treaty of Windsor, which cemented the world’s oldest diplomatic alliance.
The Treaty of Windsor was sealed a year later by the marriage of Portugal’s King João I and England’s Philippa of Lancaster, who became Queen of Portugal.
Commenting on Sophie and Edward’s visit, one royal fan said, “Loving The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh’s visit to Portugal! TRH have been doing amazing work in representing the RF abroad.”
Another said, “Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are doing such a great job and represent so beautifully! I love seeing their photos of their work!”
