Jameela Jamil sets the record straight on Meghan Markle friendship
The 'Good Place' actress shares where she stands with The Duchess of Sussex
Jameela Jamil and Meghan Markle aren’t exactly in each other’s inner circle.
In a new interview with The Times of London published June 12, the Good Place actress, 39, shut down any speculation that she and the Duchess of Sussex, 42, are close pals, despite their public support for one another.
“No, of course not. It’s a different planet,” Jamil said when asked if they were close.
Still, she had nothing but kind words for Meghan, adding, “She was kind to me and sent me a message of support when I was going through something very hard. I stood up for her long before I met her – like any woman I see being eaten alive by the media. I wouldn’t qualify us as close friends.”
Jamil appeared on Meghan’s Archetypes podcast in 2022 and praised Prince Harry’s wife for her genuine kindness.
“You don’t do it publicly. You don’t come to get any glory, but you privately reach out to us in our most lonely and desperate moments,” Jamil told Meghan. “And we need more of that in the world.”
She also fiercely defended Meghan from the intense media scrutiny she’s faced. “That demonisation just shows how afraid they are of you,” Jamil said.
