Meghan Markle received some upsetting news as she was set to make a big appearance at a special ceremony.
The Duchess of Sussex was set to be honoured at the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County’s Night of Wonder gala on Saturday, June 14, but the event was forced to be cancelled due to growing tensions.
Meghan, who founded her lifestyle brand As Ever, was going to receive recognition for her work to uplifting women and helping underserved communities.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, it was revealed that the high-profile event had been delayed to show solidarity with an important cause.
Tensions in LA escalated as protests erupted over the ongoing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity to deport immigrant citizens without any legal representation.
"As an institution ‘of, for, and with Los Angeles,' our responsibility during challenging times is clear: to serve as a community resource focused on healing and unity, not celebration,” said Dr Lori Bettison-Varga, President and Director of NHMLAC.
“Los Angeles needs us to channel our energy toward supporting our neighbours and demonstrating the values that make our city and county strong,” she added.
Dr Lori also noted that the decision was made by the Museum’s Board of Trustees, leadership and event partners as they “unanimously agreed” that postponing the event was the “appropriate response to current community circumstances”.
The new date for the event is yet to be revealed but it will reportedly continue to go as planned whenever it will be held.
Prince Harry’s wife is expected to deliver remarks at the event.
