'Squid Game' Season 3 release date revealed in leaked trailer: Watch
Netflix Korea accidentally spills the beans on 'Squid Game' Season 3 release date
Netflix may have unintentionally overlooked the precise date, even though they have made it clear in several promotional materials for their upcoming programming that season three of Squid Game will premiere in 2025.
For a brief time, Netflix Korea released a trailer that provided the exact date of the 2025 release—June 27, 2025.
Given that it took three years to go from season 1 to season 2, it would be just six months away, which is practically record time for the release of a new season of a major show.
“No other particular reason than that I originally envisioned it as a single series, so both seasons two and three as a single series when I was writing it. But then, as I wrote the story along, it became to be too many episodes and too long of a story because you see Gi-hun's journey where he returns to the game, but also he goes through a revolt, and that is actually the climax of that storyline, where he tries to create an uprising, but then that all goes to failure.”
“And I also saw that aspect of it as yet another game as well, and so I thought that we would divide it into two seasons to have that – Gi-hun's revolt going into a failure, him ending up losing his best friend, that itself being yet another important climatic event in the first half of the season, so into season two.”
Because both seasons were produced simultaneously, Hwang created a massive 14-episode arc that was divided between two seasons during this three-year break.
As of late, Netflix has frequently implemented a "split a new season of a popular series in half" release schedule, with episodes typically airing four and four or five and five and a month apart.
Here, in seven-hour episodes spaced six months apart? Yes, I suppose I will award them the "season 3" badge in this instance.
Although Netflix is aware that viewers obviously want the season 2 cliffhangers to be resolved as soon as possible, the way they are distributing their content suggests that they also intend to devote the second half of 2025 to its other two huge series: the final season of Stranger Things, season 5, and Wednesday's season 2, which are its two most-watched English series ever, with Squid Game being its most-watched overall.
With everything falling into place, Netflix is going to have a fantastic year.
