The people in the area still hold the Gaekwads, who were once the rulers of Baroda, in the highest regard.

Radhikaraje Gaekwad, a native of Gujarat's Wankaner state, was born on July 19, 1978. In order to become an IAS official, her father, Dr MK Ranjitsinh Jhala, gave up his royal title.
