The Jai Vilas Palace located in Gwalior, India, is one of the largest private residential houses in the world.
This 150-year-old palace has 400 rooms featuring Italian marble flooring and ornate accessories. Each floor of the palace is designed with a different theme, Luxury Launches reported.
The Durbar hall is the most magnificent part of this palace. As per Incredible India Tourism Information, during the construction, eight elephants were suspended from the ceiling of the Durbar hall to estimate if the roof was strong enough to hold chandeliers.
The hall features two identical crystal chandeliers imported from Vienna which are considered to be among the three largest chandeliers in the world.
According to GQ India, the interior of the hall is done with 560kg of gold.
The house belongs to House of Scindia that once ruled Gwalior. Today, the Jai Vilas Mahal is inherited by Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia who lives there with his family.
The Palace was built to welcome Prince George and Princess Mary of Wales in 1876. The estate which spreads across 1,240,771 square feet, is worth INR4,000 crores today.
Out of the 400 rooms, 35 have been converted into a museum wing which displays Scindia Dynasty's collection that consists of expensive assets and luxury cars.
