Lionel Messi makes MLS history as Inter Miami destroy NY Red Bulls
Argentine player sets two MLS records with five-assists and one goal, the most in a single match
Star footballer Lionel Messi has once again proved why he is the greatest of all time.
In the Inter Miami vs New York Red Bulls match on Saturday night, the Argentine player has made history by assisting in five goals which led the team to victory in a 6-2 blowout, Goal reported.
Besides assisting, Messi also scored a goal of his own.
Three of his assists were provided to Luis Suarez who netted his first Inter Miami hat-trick.
The other two assists were with newcomer Matias Roja, who scored two goals.
With his five assists, Messi has made Major League Soccer record for most assists in a game.
In addition, his six goals also set the record for most goal contribution in a single game.
The match is being labelled as Messi’s best performance since he won the World Cup with Argentine in Qatar in 2022.
Inter Miami coach Tata Martino said, "Well, I always say the same thing, it is redundant to talk about him because he always seems to do something new. And well, if something was missing, it was this. To have an impact on the six goals a team scores, this is going to be difficult to see again."
