A combination of icy temperatures and strong winds have caused widespread power outages and traffic incidents across the United States, WDSU reported.
The National Weather Service have predicted severe weather and windy conditions starting from 2 pm Monday to 10 am Tuesday in North shore, later moving down towards the South.
In an online post, they notified that, "The winter storm will be high-impact and an extensive system producing widespread heavy snow and gusty winds that will persist over parts of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest."
On Sunday, widespread heavy rains and hail fell across the Southern Californian state, causing traffic incidents and interruption of services.
A 35-year-old woman was rescued by the Los Angeles fire department after she got swept away in the Los-Angeles river.
According to Central Maine Power spokesman Jon Breed, "Damage to trees, poles, and wires was significant overnight on Saturday, and our assessors are taking stock of the damage today so we can begin restoring power to our customers as quickly and as safely as possible."
In Portland, Maine, officials have opened up community centres and school for residents without power.
In New York, more than 90000 residents were left without power on Sunday.
A weather alert has been issued for Sunday night and Monday for parts of Arizona.
