Elon Musk says Tesla in race against time to wheel out fully self-driving cars
Elon Musk says that more testing would be required before self driving cars could be released
Tech billionaire Elon Musk disclosed that electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla is working on artificial general intelligence (AGI) for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) vehicles in a major step towards obtaining completely autonomous driving capabilities.
In response to a post highlighting the use of computer vision technologies in self-driving cars, Musk made his statement.
The article emphasised how AGI can improve self-driving car performance over that of non-AGI systems.
Tech experts have been debating AGI's potential to revolutionise several industries since ChatGPT launched last year.
Among the businesses experimenting with this cutting-edge technology to lead creative breakthroughs is Tesla.
The automaker is committed to equipping its cars with complete self-driving capability.
Tesla uses the Dojo supercomputer to train machine learning models and improve FSD capabilities to achieve this goal.
Tesla hasn't, however, given a firm deadline for reaching FSD. Musk had already promised that it would be realised by the end of the year, but this deadline now seems unlikely.
The business has been working on the FSD v12 update lately; it was originally scheduled for December and is expected to bring artificial intelligence to self-driving functions. Musk had said that FSD would leave beta after version 12.
Still, Musk said a few days ago that more testing would be required before the release could happen.
Although the technology works effectively in California, more testing is needed in areas that receive a lot of precipitation.
