With Australia securing their sixth ODI World Cup title after defeating hosts India, social media users have expressed varied reactions after the Kangaroos emerged triumphant in the final match of the 13th edition of the mega-event.

Batting second, the Aussies suffered early blows and lost back-to-back wickers, however, the Pat Cummins-led side came back strong and successfully chased down India's 241-run target courtesy of Travis Head's brilliant 137-run knock.

After today's win, Australia have extended their record for most ODI World Cup wins — with India and West Indies trailing behind with two titles each.

Taking to social media, netizens, former players, politicians and cricket fans shared mixed reactions to Australia's win over the hosts.

"Dil Toot Gaya [heart broken]," wrote former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra.

"Well done Australia you are truly a world champion", Irfan Pathan said while commending the Kangaroos for an astonishing comeback in the tournament after suffering back-to-back defeats earlier in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle said: "I know it didn't end the way it was meant to. They came up today against a team that played better as every team in this World Cup has someday."

"We can hold our heads high for the effort our boys gave throughout the tournament," former Indian opener Virender Sehwag said adding, "Many congratulations Australia on winning the World Cup. They were the best side on the day of the final."

"Chin up boys," Gautam Gambhir said.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar also congratulated the Australian side for winning the mega-event and commended Head for his "phenomenal" innings.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Rohit-Sharma for bringing "immense pride to the nation".

"Congratulations to Australia on a magnificent World Cup victory! Theirs was a commendable performance through the tournament, culminating in a splendid triumph. Compliments to Travis Head for his remarkable game today," he added.

However, former Pakistani speedster Waqar Younis took a rather sarcastic tone suggesting they knew all along that the Kangaroos would triumph in the final against India.

"Told ya …Congratulations ???? ????@patcummins30 & the boys in yellow. “Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi! Oi’ Oi!” … #AUSvIND #WorldcupFinal," Younis wrote on his X account.

The "sultan of swing," Wasim Akram, also congratulated the Aussies for their impressive win in the final.
