LAHORE: Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Monday said a handful of miscreants had tried to sabotage the peaceful message sent out by the government through the announcement of Yaum-e-Ishq-e-Rasool (PBUH) by resorting to riots and ransacking public and private property. The government, he resolved, would not spare these elements and would take strict action against them.

Addressing the distribution ceremony of compensation to heirs of victims of the fire at the shoe factory in Lahore, the PM also called for strict action against those responsible for making the sacrilegious movie, as well as effective legislation at the international level to block acts aimed at degrading any religion.

The prime minister said the government was in constant liaison with ambassadors of the OIC countries to push for effective legislation at the international level to take those resorting to degradation and disrespect of religions and faithsto the task. He said that the sacrilegious movie had not only hurt the sentiments of the entire Muslim Ummah but also endangered the world peace.

The PM said that Muslims would not refrain even from laying down their lives for the respect and dignity of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him). “The objective of the observance of Yaum-e-Ishq-e-Rasool was to lodge our protest and anger at the international level and make unscrupulous elements realise that any kind of profanity and disrespect of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) shall not be tolerated. We not only deem it the essence of our faith but also a pride for us to lay down our lives to protect the sanctity and grace of our Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him),” the PM added.

He also paid tributes to the Pakistani nation for observing Love the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) Day and urged them to register their protest and anger peacefully. All Pakistanis, including those belonging to other religions, had protested and condemned the blasphemous film, he said.

The prime minister said that President Asif Ali Zardari would participate in the UN General Assembly session on Tuesday and the crux of his speech would be on the blasphemy issue, adding that he would push the international community to take measures to curb such acts in the future and take to task those responsible for the blasphemous movie.

The prime minister said, “We want to give a message to the international community that Islam is a religion of peace and the disrespect of the prophets or supreme personality of any religion is altogether an inhuman, unnatural and immoral act. Therefore, the international community must play its role in curbing such anti-human acts in the future if it wants to maintain world peace.”
