Dog's lover's £60,000 final gift before death stuns community

Margaret Hunt spent a good part of her life in Monmouthshire. She was a dog lover.

Now, when she passed away in 2023, she left behind a will.

In it, a whopping £60,000 was promised to Greyhouse Rescue.

The charity takes care of abandoned racing dogs, and as Wales is set to take and enforce a ban on greyhound racing, the number of dogs needing shelters is expected to rise.

Here, the generous bequest will boost the charity, according to Wales Online.

Kate Parsons, Margaret's niece, said her late aunt had been a lifelong animal lover.

In addition, she had several greyhounds in her home.

"Margaret loved animals and nature throughout her life," she added.

"She had a number of greyhounds, including two called Barkis and Diogenes," Parsons shared.

"She gave a lot of administrative support to charities throughout her life and was secretary of local branches of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales," she added.

Parsons then said Hunt's legacy will be etched in the hearts and minds of the community after her generous grant.

"Her legacy will make a real and immediate difference to the greyhounds who need us most as the racing ban takes effect."

"Margaret's gift strengthens our ability to provide the veterinary care, rehabilitation and safe space that every dog deserves," Parsons concluded.
