Netflix is set to release an artificial intelligence-based documentary The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist on September 15.
Directed by Daniel Roher and Charlie Tyrell, the documentary follows Roher’s journey as father-to-be amid AI’s unprecedented growth. It unfolds an investigatory journey by speaking with technology executives and experts including Sam Altman and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei and explaining what kind of future a child may inherit in the age of technology.
Rather than a dry technical guide, Netflix structures the documentary as a personal investigation. By examining how AI might reshape a single family and the world ahead, the film delivers a powerful, human-centered narrative.
But its release timing has become a center of attention among netizens. Its release on Netflix comes at a time when the world is in the grip of fear driven by human extinction caused by fast-paced AI development. For instance, Anthropic researchers blamed the tech companies for gambling with our lives while dealing with AI irresponsibly.
Anthropic CEO in his lengthy essay called for slowing down AI development as it poses a severe existential threat to humanity. OpenAI boss and Elon Musk also backed this safety push.
