PTI and power
This refers to the article, ‘The PTI’s good governance?’ (February 13) by Babar Sattar. The writer, as always, has given an excellent analysis of the PTI’s revisionist policies and correctly pointed out that the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has failed in all the three policy prescriptions on which Imran Khan took a lot of pride – the Local Government Act, the Right to Information Act and a totally independent and powerful Ehtesab Commission.
Now, Imran is making all sorts of unconvincing arguments about his party’s U-turn on these issues. However, the fact is that the initial spark of hope and change kindled by him in the nation has almost extinguished. Imran has proved to be no different than the run-of-the-mill Pakistani politicians. The writer is right in questioning: “If the fish rots from its head, as they say, how does one explain the happenings in PTI-led KP?” Had Imran not started chasing ‘electables’ and let the momentum and initial euphoria of change and ‘tsunami’ take its course, things would have been much different today. As things stand, Imran is waiting for his turn in power which may or may not come.
