As part of its preparations for the 2018 general elections, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement announced on Monday its 13-member committee in Punjab which would organise the party in the province at every tier.

Speaking at a press conference at the Khursheed Begum Memorial Hall, MQM MNA Kanwar Naveed Jameel said the Punjab committee would party organise the party from the district to tehsil levels and elect its office-bearers there.

The 13 members of the committee include its president Mian Ateeq, senior vice president Abid Gujjar, vice president Idrees Jami, vice president Furqan Mughal, vice president Nadeem Khokhar vice president Abdul Karim, general secretary Malik Abdul Waseem Khokhar, joint secretary Mohammad Ali Jawwad, joint secretary Javed Cheema, joint secretary Ansar Butt, finance secretary KAshif Khursheed, information secretary Khurram Shahzad Rana and deputy information secretary Rao Khalid.

Replying to a question, Jamil said the party already had an infrastructure in Punjab and in the year 2018 it would be able to grab seats in the province.

He added that the MQM was the only party wherein policies were formed after consultations and in Punjab the policies would be shaped in accordance with the issues of the province.

“It [the MQM] is also the only party in the country whose representatives serve the public free of charge and we will soon form our organisational set-ups in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.”

Jameel was accompanied by the members of the newly formed committee at the press conference.

The MQM MNA said as the party was pre-occupied during the local government elections, it was unable to give due attention to the Punjab committee. The MQM has divided its organisational structure in Punjab into three categories –central Punjab, upper Punjab and lower Punjab.

“The people of Punjab want to join the MQM and the party’s membership in the province is increasing with each passing day,” Jameel maintained.
