ISLAMABAD: In a latest move for the ‘revival’ of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), party’s top leader Justice (R) Wajihuddin Ahmad is all set to address a general workers convention in Peshawar on Saturday, January 9. Justice Wajih will also address Peshawar District Bar on the same day.

PTI spokesperson Naeemul Haq, while talking to The News, however, said that basic membership of the party of Wajihuddin is suspended, so he cannot take part in any such activity.

Naeem said that January 9 general workers convention in Peshawar was not called by the party and it was the initiative of a group of dissidents in the PTI. The spokesperson said he was aware of the announcement of Saturday’s programme and the PTI has nothing to do with it. He dubbed the dissident group “email-group” and said that these people have no following.

According to party sources, Wajih will be addressing Peshawar District Bar at 11 am on Saturday which is arranged by Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF) and then will address PTI’s general workers convention at 2 pm on the same day at Peshawar Club. Party sources also confirmed that Wajih will be welcomed in Islamabad on January 13 and will address at different places.

Wajihuddin had announced starting a struggle and a mass-contact movement to restore PTI image on August 14 last year. Wajih is considered as one of the most respectable figures of Pakistan’s judicial history.

He served as a judge of Sindh High Court (SHC), chief justice of SHC, a judge of the Supreme Court, and had refused to take oath of forth military dictator of the country on basis of his principles.

Wajih could have become Chief Justice of Pakistan had he accepted the illegal and unconstitutional rule of Musharraf.

Wajih is widely respected among top leadership of the PTI but he was sidelined by the party chief after he (Wajih) as head of party inquiry commission gave a decision against PTI leader Jahangir Khan Tareen.

The PTI leaders supporting Wajih say that they want to bring party out of the clutches of powerful landlords, industrialists and tycoons and want to restore party’s image.

These leaders also say that they will ensure that all efforts to use the PTI to sabotage China-Pakistan Economic Corridor are failed.
