In an innovative move, the Government of Punjab has decided to formally recognise the skills of those individuals who got expertise in different trades through non-traditional or non-conventional (‘ustad’, ‘sahagird’) means, unlike the regular skill development system of the modern age.
Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) of the provincial government under Recognition of Prior Learning Programme (RPL) has been tasked to carry forward the task of recognising the skills of such professionals who sought trainings through conventional means, said a public awareness message carried by a section of the press here on Monday. The programme will cover the whole of province.
Initially 15 such trades have been identified for which TEVTA has been authorized to issue proper certificate to help skilful person to get jobs in various private and public sector organizations besides applying for jobs abroad.
Those 15 trades initially recognised for certification to the skilful persons include, mechanics, motorcycle mechanic, electrician, AutoCAD (Civil), HVACR, welder, plumber, building painter, mason, steel fixer, auto mechanic (Petrol), and auto electrician for males.
While, tailoring is for both male and female and machine embroidery and beautician is specified for females.
Registration for all the trades would start from September 10 and their skills would be certified after proper tests or practical without charging any fee from the candidates.
A proper certificate would be issued to the applicants after their success in the test criteria.
According to the eligibility criteria for certification, applicant should not be less than 18 years and holder of Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC).
He or she should possess at least two years experience in an industrial unit and be able to provide work experience or proper record of employment.
The applicant should be able to provide proper reference of the employer with whom he or she had worked.
Registration process would be completed through an automated system besides conducting interviews and tests of the applicants.
The TEVTA has identified/appointed focal persons to be reached through their telephone numbers of three zones of Punjab which include, Farhat Piracha for North (051-9292043 or 44), for Central Khurram Shafiq (042-99239017 or 042-99238712), and South, Nazir Khan Niazi (061-9239065 or 061-6212736).
