Kung Fu Panda (3)

In 2016, one of the most successful animated franchises in the world returns with its biggest comedy adventure yet, ‘Kung Fu Panda 3. This third ‘Kung Fu Panda’ provides just as much laughter and thrills as fans expect from the franchise.

This time, Jack Black is back as Po who is reunited with his long-lost panda father and the two travel together to a secret panda paradise. But when the supernatural villain Kai begins to sweep across China defeating all the kung fu masters, Po must do the impossible - learn to train a village full of his fun-loving, clumsy brethren to become the ultimate band of Kung Fu Pandas!

The film boasts the requisite visual splendour, but like its rotund protagonist, this sequel’s narrative is also surprisingly nimble, adding up to animated fun for the whole family.

Edie the Eagle

Summer fun

Inspired by true events, ‘Eddie the Eagle’ is a feel-good story about Michael “Eddie” Edwards (Taron Egerton), an unlikely but courageous British ski-jumper who never stopped believing in himself. Written by Sean Macaulay and Simon Kelton, ‘Eddie the Eagle’ is driven by a sense of simplicity and a warm familiarity which allows the audience to get behind its story. ‘Eddie the Eagle’ is a movie so delightfully good-natured that you’ll want to cuddle it. This fictionalized biopic about a determined Brit and his coach who seeks redemption doesn’t include a lot of surprises, but it’s still inspirational and fun.

The little Prince

Summer fun

Classic children’s book ‘The Little Prince’ gets a beautiful, affectionate and enchanting tribute from director Mark Osborne. ‘ The Little Prince’, an adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s beloved 1943 novella, is a whimsical journey in favour of following dreams and finding life’s true loves - a film for young audiences as well as for the oldies who’ve lost their way.

The Little Prince is a powerful film about how we interpret great stories. We have Mackenzie Foy as the voice of an unnamed Little Girl, a chip-toothed schoolgirl under the thumb of a well-meaning but overbearing single mother (Rachel McAdams). Mom’s meticulous ‘life plan’ is abandoned when the girl befriends an eccentric aviator neighbour whose airplane is in disrepair but whose storytelling skills are full of flight. This character is voiced by Jeff Bridges, who in full Foghorn Leghorn form relays a fable that involves the titular Prince, an interplanetary journey and a super-wise fox.

Zootopia

Summer fun

Disney’s digitally animated feature ‘Zootopia’ offers a thoughtful, inclusive message that’s as rich and timely as its sumptuously state-of-the-art animation — all while remaining fast and funny enough to keep younger viewers entertained.

In the world of Zootopia, humans never happened. It imagines a world of anthropomorphic animals where all animals live together, walk on two feet and even wear clothes. The film focuses on a city where they all live in harmony despite all the differences in sizes and nature.  . In this movie, fox Nick Wilde and Officer Judy Hopps, a bunny, find themselves at the centre of a conspiracy. The unlikely pair must then work together to solve their problems.

‘Zootopia’ is a brilliant, funny story about bias, empowerment and understanding. Children will love the anthropomorphic animated stars, and adults will be entertained by the concepts of prejudice and stereotyping.

The Jungle Book

The marvelous animated Disney feature, ‘The Jungle Book’ is nothing short of spectacular: a reinvention of the much-loved cartoon feature brought to life with taste, heart, and cutting-edge technology. The film is drawn from two sources: Disney’s 1967 animated film, and Rudyard Kipling’s original Jungle Book novels.

The story is centered on Mowgli (Neel Sethi), a youngchild who was taken in by the animals of the jungle after being separated from his family. His primary guardian (and the film’s narrator) is a panther named Bagheera (voiced by Sir Ben Kingsley), who arranges to have Mowgli raised by a pack of wolves, led by Akela (Giancarlo Esposito) and Raksha (Lupita Nyong’o).

Directed by Jon Favreau, ‘The Jungle Book’ is one of the most effective blends of computer-generated imagery and live action in recent memory. Adults will get a kick out of hearing Christopher Walken in the role of King Louie. Both characters get to sing their signature tunes, ‘The Bare Necessities’ and ‘I Wanna Be Like You’.
