Exploitation of college buses

Dear Editor,

I would really appreciate government for arranging buses for the students of Atta Shad Degree College. But, it is unfortunate to mention that the people who are operating them are using these buses for their own purposes. When the government provides facilities, people start exploiting them for their own purposes. The buses which were supposed to facilitate the students are now being used by the drivers for private businesses. I think if the government strengthens its check and balance system, their efforts to help the citizen s wouldn wasted.

There is nothing bad in e-reading

Hi Editor,

I usually come across people lamenting about how people have stopped picking up hard copies of newspaper, magazines and books and started grabbing a smart phone to e-read. But I think there is no harm in that; in fact, reading on gadgets and laptops is a lot more convenient and economical and e-reading gives us a chance to explore a variety of reading material from all around the globe. As far as people are reading, there is no point in worrying about what medium they choose.

Feedback

Salam Editor,

After reading the cover story ‘Educational institutions: imparting knowledge or minting money?’ (May 20), I realized that we all need to work together to rescue our educational system. I really commend the writer for reminding us about how money making has seeped into our educational set-up. We have been repeatedly highlighting this issue, but more should be done to educate the students, teachers and parents about their rights and responsibilities to bring about a change.

Hi Editor,

All the people who have experienced travelling in a KU point can relate to the journal entry you published in your issue (May 20) with the title, ‘Point woes of a KU-rian’. As I regularly use university bus, I would rather say that these buses are a blessing. With limited funds and human resources, these points are still running and making it possible for the students living in Saddar, Orangi and North Karachi to reach the campus every day. But, of course, the problems we suffer as regular passengers of the points should be highlighted and solved.

Teaching licence

Hi Editor,

We are a part of that educational system where a PhD degree holder can even fail to deliver knowledge and facilitate the learning of the students. It is high time that we should re-evaluate our educational system and come up with solutions for maintaining quality. One idea is of issuing teaching licence to the prospective teachers to ensure that the makers of the nation are eligible enough. To drive legally, one needs a driving licence as it’s a matter of everybody’s safety on the road. So why wouldn’t a teacher need a licence to teach as it’s a matter of nation’s future?

I think we should take teaching seriously as teachers are the ones who produce scientist, engineers, teachers and lawyers. Good teachers can really make a difference.

US MAILReflection

Narrated by Abu Huraira (R.A)

I heard Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) saying, “We (Muslims) are the last (to come) but (will be) the foremost on the Day of Resurrection though the former nations were given the Holy Scriptures before us. And this was their day (Friday) the celebration of which was made compulsory for them but they differed about it. So Allah gave us the guidance for it (Friday) and all the other people are behind us in this respect: the Jews’ (holy day is) tomorrow (i.e. Saturday) and the Christians’ (is) the day after tomorrow (i.e. Sunday).”
