  • Amazon unveils new Kindle e-reader: Online retailer Amazon has introduced a new version of its successful Kindle e-reader. The Kindle Oasis has a 6 inch high-resolution 300 ppi display, touchscreen and page turn buttons, 10 LED built-in light, long battery life that can last months, and includes a removable leather charging cover. Weighting around 4.6 ounces and measuring only 0.13 inch at its thinnest point, the tapered device is the “thinnest and lightest Kindle ever”; its price starts at US$290.
  • Microsoft discontinues Xbox 360: Tech giant Microsoft is ending the production of its game console Xbox 360 nearly ten years after it was launched in November 2005. In a post on the official website (xbox.com), the Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, said that the popular console resulted in “over 78 billion gaming hours played, nearly 486 billion Gamerscore on 27 billion achievements, and over 25 billion hours spent in apps over its lifetime” but that production is being stopped as “the realities of manufacturing a product over a decade old are starting to creep up on us”. However, he assures gamers that the company will continue to support the platform and the Xbox Live services and servers will remain active.
  • FBI spent more than a million to hack attacker’s iPhone: After Apple’s refusal to unlock the device, the U.S. Justice Department has sought the help of an unidentified third party to gain access to San Bernardino shooter Rizwan Farook’s iPhone. Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey said the agency paid more to break into the iPhone than he “will make in the remaining seven years” in his current post, which makes the amount more than US$1.34 million, the largest ever publicized fee for a hacking job.
