Dear Ed,

I have been thinking of writing you a letter since a long time but due to some busy routine I couldn’t fulfil my wish. I am a regular reader of Us magazine and, to be honest, I love it. I’m always waiting for the newspaper to come at home to read new articles. I’m a person who does not watch television; I prefer reading newspapers and magazines more than watching news and stuff. I know that sounds weird. :) But, trust me, whenever my dad comes home and put the newspapers on the table, I’m the first one to get them and skim through the crisp pages to see if they include Us magazine. I really like your work and your reporters and contributors are quite talented. I would love to contribute to your magazine, too. Photography is one of my passions or you can call it my talent, so can I send you my piece of work? I love going places and I love promoting Pakistan. Or – and it’s just a suggestion – maybe you can start a photo of the week/month, encouraging other contributors like me to send their photographs for you to select from. It’s all up to you. Keep up your work!

We’re as much delighted as you that you finally got to pen us this letter. And we totally appreciate you being a newspaper junkie! You don’t have to fret about finding it every day; Us is a weekly magazine which comes out every Friday. As for your contributions, you can send them to us.mag@thenews.com.pk

Dear Ed,

Since few weeks, I have been missing ‘Bits ‘n’ Pieces’. Have you stopped this section? I really like it because there is always some interesting stuff in it. In the last week’s issue, I liked ‘Etymology’ by Ali Suleman; it is informative and interesting. I also read ‘Underprivileged – no more!’ by Shermeen Zuberi and was impressed by the work of students who are trying to inculcate reading habit among students of less privileged schools. Keep up the good work!

Dear Editor,

“Khwab — you dream, we play!” by Zahabia K. M. impressed me. I am a former student of the University of Karachi (KU) so I know exactly what these students must have gone through to transform their dream into reality. It is not easy to carry out co-curricular activities in KU; there is a particular student wing of a political part that messes up with all kinds of activities and they don’t mind using brute force.

In my department – and I am not naming it because I still have friends there – when we put up our projects, the goons of these party came in the night and destroyed our hard work. So kudos to Fatima Karim and her team; they must be exceptional!

Dear Ed,

When are you going to treat us with the stories of the winners of April’s story writing competition? I would have contributed, too, but I honestly thought you were hoaxing the readers. I hope it doesn’t mean we are not going to have the usual story writing competition that you have been holding for some years now! And, I suggest you announce it as early as possible because students of different years have their examinations at different times.

US MAILReflection

Narrated by Anas (R.A)

The Prophet (S.A.W) said, “The people will be thrown into Hell (Fire) and it will keep on saying, ‘Is there any more?’ till the Lord of the Worlds puts His Foot over it, whereupon its different sides will come close to each other, and it will say, ‘Qad! Qad! (enough! enough!) By Your Izzat (Honor and Power) and Your Karam (Generosity)!’ Paradise will remain spacious enough to accommodate more people until Allah will create some more people and let them dwell in the superfluous space of Paradise.”
