Starring Randeep Hooda and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in lead roles, upcoming film Sarbjit is based on the life of Indian national Sarbjit Singh, who was jailed in Pakistan on spying charges and died in prison after a fellow prisoner assaulted him. Given the controversial subject, one can expect the film to carry elements that potray Pakistan in a negative light. However, Hooda, who is essaying the titular role in the film, claims otherwise.

“I don’t think there is any Pakistan bashing per say in the film. But yes, there are a lot of prisoners over there and some are subjected to atrocities. I am not sure if that happens here as well...If you treat somebody for such things just because of their nationality and not their crime, then, whether it happens in India or Pakistan, it is always wrong,” the actor told Hindustan Times at the special prayer meet, organized to commemorate Sarbjit’s third death anniversary.

The actor, who was last seen in a gangster avatar in Beeba Boys, added that the film essentially revolves around the life of a common man who gets stuck between the political climate of India and Pakistan. The director of the film Omung Kumar also claimed that there is nothing objectionable in the movie and he hopes the film gets released in Pakistan. “We are sending the film to their Censor Board. There is nothing objectionable in the film. We would like it to release everywhere. We have just told the facts and these are from both sides, India as well as Pakistan,” he told PTI.
