Fans of Kesha have long missed the singer and have even signed petitions advocating that she be allowed to make music again (she hasn’t produced new music since four years). However, it seems that’s not happening any time soon. A New York Supreme Court judge recently dismissed Kesha’s case against Sony Music. The pop singer claims that she was sexually and emotionally abused by producer Dr. Luke and hence, she should be released from her contract with the company.

Justice Shirley Werner Kornreich, however, said that the case cannot be carried forward because the alleged incidents happened outside New York and beyond the legal time limit. The judge also stated that Kesha has not so far proved that the alleged assault was a "gender-motivated hate crime”.

"Although [Dr. Luke’s] alleged actions were directed to Kesha, who is female, [her claims] do not allege that [Luke] harbored animus toward women or was motivated by gender animus when he allegedly behaved violently toward Kesha," the court noted. However, despite the dismissal of Kesha’s claims, the lawsuit can still proceed on the grounds of contract issues.

While Kesha is struggling legally, fans on social media have been speaking extensively in support of the singer. The music industry has long been under the radar for mistreating and abusing women and the decision only casts a doubt on whether young stars can really ever stand up against exploitation and take control of their career.
