Shutdown in occupied Srinagar against desecration of historic mosque

OCCUPIED SRINAGAR: A complete shutdown was observed in Occupied Srinagar district on Saturday to protest against the atrocities of Indian police.

Call for the shutdown was given by the Hurriyet leader Syed Ali Gilani, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik and senior Hurriyet leader Shabbir
Ahmed Shah.

Other Hurriyet leaders and traders organizations have supported the call KMS reported.

The shutdown was aimed at registering protest against the desecration of Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid by Indian forces personnel and highhandedness of police against the students of Kashmir University.

All shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the roads.

The puppet authorities placed Hurriyet leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad, Ashraf Sehrai, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Raja Merajuddin Kalwal and Ayaz Akbar under house arrest.

The police arrested Hakeem Abdur Rasheed and Zafar Akbar Butt from their residences and lodged them in different police stations. The actions were taken to prevent the leaders from leading demonstrations against the highhandedness of Indian forces in the territory.

The police also raided the house of APHC leader Shahidul Islam and harassed the inmates.

It is to mention here that dozens of people were injured when Indian troops and police fired teargas shells in the premises of Jamia Masjid without any provocation on Friday.

The action triggered massive anti-India protests in Nowhatta, Maisuma, Gaw, Kadal Habba, Kadal, Basant Bagh and other areas of the city.

Indian police forcibly evicted the male and female students of the Kashmir University on Friday following forceful demonstrations in the campus for three consecutive days against the arrest of a student by the police during a nocturnal raid on his rented residence.
