QUETTA: Pakistan’s Army Chief General Raheel Sharif on Thursday said that a ‘favourable political atmosphere’ is being built in the country following the launch of military offensive Zarb-e-Azb against terrorism in the tribal belt.

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), who paid a visit to the Command and Staff College here, said the armed forces of the country have gained ‘magnificent achievements’ during Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

The army chief said successes achieved in the military offensive have created a favourable atmosphere for an actual and long-lasting conclusion of the war against terrorism.

He, however, said conventional methods of warfare and retaliation were no longer plausible for tackling threats being faced by the country.

Gen Raheel Sharif said the nation’s support was vital in the Army’s success in war against terrorism.

“It’s not only Army that engages in battles rather nations’ cooperation is also required,” he said. The war against terrorism is being fought for the future generations, he added.

“Only a safe Pakistan can become a prosperous Pakistan.”
