New property rental law in Sindh: Inform police or face jail term

KARACHI: Owners will have to pay up to Rs45,000 in fines and face a 6-month jail term for not informing police before renting out their properties in Sindh, the provincial legislature passes a bill with majority vote on Monday.

The law also binds owners of hotels and guest houses to inform police about their lodgers within three hours of the deal.

KARACHI: Owners will have to pay up to Rs45,000 in fines and face a 6-month jail term for not informing police before renting out their properties in Sindh, the provincial legislature passes a bill with majority vote on Monday.

The law also binds owners of hotels and guest houses to inform police about their lodgers within three hours of the deal. Those failing to abide by the law will face a six-month prison term and Rs10,000 to Rs45,000 fines, said the bill.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs in Sindh, Dr Sikandar Mandhro said the new law is a part of the National Action Plan (NAP) formulated to eradicate the country of terrorists and criminals.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) tabled amendments to the bill that were ruled out and the law was adopted with majority vote.
