Baghdad: Two bomb blasts killed at least 22 people and wounded 43 others on the main street of a suburb of the Iraqi capital on Tuesday, security sources said.
At least one of the explosions in the Jisr Diyala neighbourhood on the southeastern edge of Baghdad was caused by a car bomb, an interior ministry source said.
Police said the blasts went off near a fire station and as a group of young men were leaving a nearby football ground.
Medical sources confirmed the death toll.
At least nine other people were killed in smaller blasts caused by improvised explosive devices, a car bomb and sticky bombs in Baghdad and in restive areas north and south of the capital on Tuesday, the same sources said.
At least 32 people were killed in attacks in Baghdad on February 8 but the frequency of bombings in the capital has slowed this year following gains against the Islamic State group. (AFP)
