Islamabad: The students of Indus Valley School of Learning (IVSL) held a protest at Marghazar Zoo in front of ‘Kaavan’ (elephant) compound here on Sunday.
The children carried placards inscribed with slogans to free ‘Kaavan’ as it is chained soon after his companion ‘Saheli’ died.
The 31-year-old Asian elephant, ‘Kaavan’, has been kept in solitary confinement and chained around its leg since his long-term companion ‘Saheli’, a female elephant gifted by the government of Bangladesh in early 90s to Pakistan, died in May 2012. ‘Kaavan’ was brought from Sri Lanka in 1985 when he was one year old. The authorities were urged to get its female companion from any zoo and free him from chains.
