Academic Division, Higher Education Commission (HEC), in collaboration with Higher Education Departments of Provinces, has started capacity building of colleges affiliated with public sector universities.
First time in history of Pakistan the HEC has set the Minimum Quality Standards (MQS) for colleges of Pakistan. The MQS are yard stick to assess the quality education and assess the strengths and weaknesses. In first phase only five out of 100 colleges met the set standards. In second phase 300 more colleges from four provinces, AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan and Islamabad evaluated on MQS and results were not encouraging.
Along assessment of quality education HEC also conducted 10 workshops for capacity building of colleges to meet the set standards. The training workshops are for principals, vice principals and senior faculty members of affiliated colleges on modules. The purpose was to train resource persons as Master Trainers in specified areas including Vision- Mission-Goals, Academic and Non-Academic Staff, Learning Resources and Physical Infrastructure, Organisation, Governance and Financial Management, Research, Public Disclosure and Transparency, Community Link and Out Reach.
In six days workshop Prof. Fida Hussain, D G Academic Division, addressed the participants and highlighted the importance of quality education in colleges.
