Judicial magistrate (South) will indict Shunaid Qureshi, CEO of Al-Abbas Sugar Mills, and former Chairman of Pakistan Sugar Mills Association, on January 10 in a case of torturing and issuing life threats to Hassan Shahid and others and damaging the repute of Jahangir Siddiqui and Co Ltd, the chief financial officer, and shareholders.
The complainant, Hassan Shahid, lodged a case with Sadar Police Station stating that he is financial officer of Jahangir Siddiqui and Co Ltd and on October 15, 2013, an annual meeting of the company was being held in a hotel in Regent Plaza when Shunaid Qureshi (son of Shafi Qureshi), Haji Usman, Asim Ghani s/o Haji Usman Ghani and about 50-60 more people broke into the meeting room and tortured the complainant and other meeting participants. The company’s secretary asked Shunaid Qureshi about his folio number, but instead Qureshi gave him and other stakeholders life threats. The accused got angry and took away important documents of the meeting. They threw chairs on the shareholders and gave them life threats which are recorded in CCTV footage, which was got aired on many TV channels and reported in newspapers.
A private channel, after passage of many days, organised a debate on this issue. This incident has damaged repute of the company; therefore, a case be lodged against the accused for issuing life threats and torturing the complainant and stakeholders, contended the complainant.
It is to be mentioned here that the case was lodged on orders of the court which has examined the investigation done by the investigation officer. The court has issued arrest warrants for the accused for January 10.
