DCO Lahore Noor-ul-Amin Mengal has said that strict action will be taken against all Sheesha Cafes of the city and they will be closed according to the law. However in first phase, notices will be served on the owners of Sheesha Cafes. No action will be taken against those owners of Sheesha Cafes who will close their cafes themselves. He said that awareness campaign regarding bad effects of Sheesha on health and environment would be started. DCO Lahore said that after the completion of first phase, teams of environmental department would take action against Sheesha Cafes and these teams would seal the Sheesha Cafes according to the law. He said that Sheesha Cafes had become a social issue because our young generation was becoming addict of drugs because of these Sheesha Cafes and in this connection public should also cooperate with the government.
He expressed these views during a meeting regarding evolving a strategy to control tobacco & Sheesha Cafes at the DCO office on Thursday.
The DCO Lahore said that it must be ensured that the usage of tobacco must be totally prohibited in government offices, at public places and on public transport. He said the boards of “No Smoking” must be put in the offices of the City District government. It was told in the meeting that 274 people died daily and 5000 hospitalised because of usage of tobacco and Sheesha in Pakistan while 6 to 15 years old 1200 young stars started smoking or Sheesha daily.
The DCO Lahore said that action would also be taken against the dealers of “Naswar” and “Gutka”. The DCO Lahore directed the concerned officers to submit a daily report of government steps against the usage of tobacco and Sheesha. EDO (Health), EDO (Education), ADC (G), DO Monitoring, DO (Food), officers of environmental and other departments participated in the meeting.
DCO Lahore Noor-ul-Amin Mengal has surrendered TMO Data Ganj Bakhsh Town Sardar Naseer due to his poor performance. DCO Lahore placed the services of Sardar Naseer at the disposal of Commissioner Lahore Division.
