Tax details of govt, opposition MPs published

Nawaz Sharif paid Rs2.611m, Khursheed Shah Rs100,054 and PTI chief Imran Khan Rs218,237 as tax; Fazl paid Rs15,688 while Siraj paid zero tax

ISLAMABAD: For the second consecutive year, the government on Friday published the Tax Directory for the year 2014, which says that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif paid Rs2.611 million, Syed Khursheed Shah, the Leader of the Opposition in NA, Rs100,054 and PTI chief Imran Khan Rs218,237 as tax.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Ameer JUI-F, paid Rs15,688 as tax while Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Sirajul Haq paid zero tax in 2014. Ameer Jamiat Ahle Hadith Professor Sajid Mir paid Rs170,286.
“The Tax Directory is a manifestation of government’s commitment to provide access to information to the general public and should help in creating public awareness, motivation and transparency,” said finance minister Ishaq Dar while releasing the Tax Directory 2014 on the FBR’s website on Friday evening.
In continuation of last year’s initiative to publish a Tax Directory of all taxpayers and in exercise of powers conferred under sub-section (5) of section of 216 of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, I am pleased to present the Tax Directory of all taxpayers for the tax year 2014, prepared by the Federal Board of Revenue.
Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani paid Rs685,707 as individual tax and Rs420,865 as member of Association of Persons (AOPs). The Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq has paid Rs327,895 while deputy chairman Senate Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri paid Rs30169 as tax.
Tax paid by the ministers of PML-N government is as follows: finance minister Ishaq Dar Rs2.286 million; Mushaid Ullah Khan, minister of state for climate Rs45,757; minister for information and broadcasting Pervez Rasheed Rs313,681; minister for petroleum Shahid Khakan Abbasi Rs2,213,180; minister for interior Ch Nisar Ali Khan Rs641,284; minister of state Saira Afzal Tarar Rs87,986; minister for water and power and defence Khawaja Mohammad Asif Rs311,638 as income tax and Rs4,410,491 as AOP; minister for planning and development Ahsan Iqbal Rs130,749; Khawaja Saad Rafique Rs2,041,936; Rana Tanvir Hussain, minister of state for defence production Rs287,869; minister for Kashmir affairs and governor GB Mohammad Barjees Tahir Rs316,739; Mohammad Baligh Ur Rehman, minister of state Rs349,408 as income tax and Rs2,328,845 as AOP; minister for inter provincial coordination Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada Rs276,684; Anusha Rehman Rs79,176 and minister for SAFRON Lt Gen (Retd) Qadir Baloch Rs100,054.

Many parliamentarians paid no tax including senator Iqbal Zafar Jhagra (PML-N), Atta UR Rehman of JUI (F), John Kenmeth Williams, Mohammad Azam Khan Hoti, Mohammad Javed Abbasi and Saleem Zia. According to the Tax Directory, Jamat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Siraj Ul Haq also paid no tax.
Senator Usman Saifullah of PPP paid Rs2,292,949, Senator Taleh Mehmood Rs14.281 million, Aitzaz Ahsan of PPP paid Rs12.474 million, Prof Sajid Mir paid Rs170,286, Raja Zafar Ul Haq of PML (N) Rs99,446, Zaheer Ud Din Babar Awan of PPP Rs793816, Abdul Rehman Malik of PPP Rs17379, Farooq Naek Rs6,890,588, Farhatullah Babar Rs586,594, Ilyas Bailour Rs835,893, Syed Shibli Faraz Rs1,555,119, Nasreen Jalil Rs46,617, and Dr Mohammad Farough Naseem Rs10,664,776, Salmeem Mandviwala paid Rs1,234,160, Nasreen Jalil Rs46,617 and Saeed Ghani Rs78,627.
Punjab chief minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has paid Rs5125545, chief minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah Rs111772, chief minister KPK Pervez Khattak Rs660619 while CM Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik paid zero tax.
