Urban, rural areas to be purged of terrorists: COAS

Isolated pockets of terrorists to be targeted with precision; resolve and indomitable spirit of injured troops an asset to army and nation

PESHAWAR: The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif, on Sunday reiterated that military operations would continue at all costs to clear all the urban centres and rural areas of terrorists so as to ensure peace and prosperity in the country.
The army chief expressed this resolve during his visit to the corps headquarters where he was briefed on security in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa/Fata, Operation Zarb-e-Azb and the ongoing military operation in the Khyber Agency, which is making a steady progress, said Director General ISPR Maj. Gen. Asim Saleem Bajwa in his tweet on the social media.
General Raheel said the ongoing military operations will continue to their logical conclusion and the terrorists squeezed in isolated pockets would be targeted with precision.He also visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Peshawar, and met the wounded soldiers. He said the resolve and indomitable spirit of the injured was a highly reassuring asset to the army and the nation.
The top civil and military leadership has expressed its determination to eliminate the terrorists and their abettors root and branch.Security at the Pakistan-Afghan border has also been tightened to block the cross-border movement of the militants.
Intelligence-sharing between the civil and military intelligence agencies has been strengthened to trace out the militants and their hideouts in the tribal areas as well as in major cities.The Pakistan Army formally launched the full-scale Operation Zarb-e-Azb against the local and foreign terrorists in the North Waziristan Agency on June 15 last year.
