RAWALPINDI/SIALKOT: The Indian Army continued unprovoked shelling along the Working Boundary in Sialkot’s Zafarwal and Shakargarh sectors, killing five civilians, including a woman, on Monday evening.
Five civilians, including a woman, embraced Shahadat (martyrdom) due to the unprovoked shelling on the civilian population on the working boundary in Zafarwal sector by the Indian Border Security Forces (BSF).
Azeem, aged 18, from Bhure Chak and a woman (Mrs Mubarak Ali) of Sukhmal village embraced Shahadat as a result of unprovoked Indian shelling.People left the area due to the Indian Army’s shelling.
This is the sixth time since December 31 that Indian troops resorted to firing by heavy weapons targeting the civil population. The Chenab Rangers responded befittingly to the firing. Reports suggest the exchange of gunfire lasted several hours.
Senior officials of the Chenab Rangers said the Indian troops targeted the civilian population in the border villages in the Shakargarh sector, particularly Bhure Chak, Sukho Chak, Chekay Chak, Chitar, Sukhmal, Tarapura and Abial Dogar. The Chenab Rangers retaliated effectively and made the Indian guns silent, they said.
Reportedly, the Indian troops have suffered heavy losses. Earlier, on December 31, two Pakistani paramilitary soldiers were killed in cross-border firing with Indian border guards near the Sialkot working boundary, spurring a strong protest from Islamabad.
