This refers to the article, ‘Solution is known...the words fail us’ (January 30) by Ayaz Amir. There is no doubt that the PML-N government has failed on all fronts and no sane advice or sermon can change the mindset of its leadership. It is no more a secret that Nawaz Sharif’s style of governance has made democracy redundant in our country. As far as the Kakar formula is concerned, it is no more applicable . But change is the need of the hour because of the total absence of governance.
It is now for the PML-N to come forward, play its role and save itself from collapse. The resignation of Chaudhry Sarwar and his admission that mafias are more powerful than a governor are a charge-sheet against the Sharif brothers and should serve as an eye-opener for the party. This sham democracy is no longer sustainable and the country cannot afford to linger on in a state of paralysis, especially when we are engaged in a battle for our survival. Since there is no inbuilt mechanism in political parties to bring about change and the MNAs’ role has largely become subservient to the whims of the party leadership after the 18th Amendment, ‘a soft intervention’ cannot be ruled out. But would it not be even better for the party to take corrective measures itself? The formation of a national government for two years is also a reasonable option.
