This refers to the letter ‘Battle-ready’ (Sep 12) by Cmdr (r) Sajjad Ali Shah Bukhari. The suggestions made by the writer are worth deliberation by the policymakers on a priority basis. The conventional and traditional warfare approaches should give way to the most appropriate defence strategies for cost-effectiveness and for foolproof security against any aggression.
A focussed strategy would save human resource and overhead costs too. Deterrence due to efficiency and effectiveness may pave the way for conflict avoidance postures between the two neighbours.
